NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Just like 1982 team, these Friars started off with wins against Bensalem. Playing then synchronicity numbers game, in 1982 Malvern only allowed 3 points in each game. In 1983 they allowed a 7 each. I know, I am thinking way too hard.

Against Bensalem it was Lockhart and Stan Brown running for one each and John Bruder showing off his receiving skills by catching two. The MP defense harassed the Bensalem QB into a 7 for 25 passing day.

The Friar vs Friar battle always seems to be tight one. I guess bragging rights have to be earned. Dennis Morgan scored the 1st TD o a 2 yard run. Billy Lockhart got the clincher with 38 seconds to go with a 13 yard run.

Stan Brown’s TDs against Academy Park were of the lengthy variety- a 60 yard run, a 82 yard KOR and a 17 yard run. Bily Lockart and John Bruder added the other two. Dioguardi and Brown bullied their way on the ground with a combined 143 yards.

MP rebounded from last year with a 28-20 statement win. Malvern opened up the scoring on a 6 play, 65 yard drive. The Friars scored all 4 TDs in the 1st half, with 20 coming in the 1st quarter alone. This week it was Dennis Morgan taking the lead with 2 TDs and 110 yards on 18 carries. Reliable kicker, Rose, as he did all season added the extra points.

In a yes, no, yes kind of season the Friars won 4, lost 3 tight ones, and then rebounded with 3 resounding wins. It was the kind of year that tests the resilience of a team and how they handle adversity. These Friars showed their toughness and their character by outscoring their last three opponents 123- 16. In a “come to the fork in the road” kind of moment this team responded with a bang.

In a game that was predicted to be tight, it was not even remotely close. All 7 TDs were runs with Lockhart getting 2, DioGuardi with 3 and Miller with 1. Rose added 5 extra points on the day. The Friars got back on track with a 41-0 win over ChiChester.

Gamp extended his win streak to 6 with a 48-14 drubbing of Germantown Academy. Dioguardi and Lockhart were in the zone for the 2nd week in a row. Dioguardi had TD runs of 37 and 8 yards. Lockhart countered with runs of 44 and 1 yards. The Friars made a ground and pound statement with Brown, Dioguardi and Lockhart finishing with 298 yards. Not to be left out John Bruder caught a 15 yarder from Lockhart. Rose was a perfect 5 for 5. The Friar D held a very good GA running back to only 69 yards on the day. The GA QB did not fair any better with a 4-20, 35 yard outing.

Always nice to go out with a win and the Friars did that with a convincing 47-13 victory against V.F.M.A. These names might sound familiar as they did it all year. Brown got 3, Lockhart 2 and Dioguardi 1. Charlie Antell finished off the seasonal scoring with a 2 yard run…. and of course Rose kicked 5 extra points. This team had a habit of scoring “long” this year. In this game, Brown went for 50 and 42, DioGuardi went for 45 and Billy Lockhart added a 61 yarder-198 yards on only 4 rushes. That is big chunk territory.

Speaking of chunkers, what a year John Bruder had. 25 catches for 538 yards and a “chunker” at 21.5 yards a catch. In the area he had 3 top ten finishes- tied for 3rd in TD catches, 7th in yards per game, 8th in total receptions. No wonder Lockhart went to him so often. Great year.

MP had tough losses to PC and EA but to illustrate the level of the competition, both PC and EA tied for the top in the Ted Silary’s Top 10 City Poll.
